LOWER WESTCHESTER EDUCATION CONSORTIUM
Support The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns:
An Action Plan!
The Lower Westchester Education Consortium (LWEC) is currently launching a letter-writing campaign to reach out to our legislators and Governor with our concerns.
Please review the four letters below about the issues that threaten to compromise our children's education, and – if you agree – send one or more letters to our state leaders. It is critical that our representatives hear your voice! The legislators need to know that parents do not want their children to lose valuable programs because of their inaction. Please tell our legislators to ACT NOW!
- Tax Levy Cap
- Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) legislation
- Unfunded Mandates
- Meaningful local control of our schools.
Thank you for your participation in this important campaign!

The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns is no longer a District In Need of Improvement!
Recently, the New York State Department of Education informed our district that we are now considered a District in Good Standing, and no longer bear the stigma of being a District In Need of Improvement.
The change was made for two reasons. First, our test scores from the past year showed improvement over the year before, and second, due to the waiver that New York State was granted by the Federal Government with regards to the No Child Left Behind Act, New York altered the way districts and schools were graded, moving from strict scores to measures of growth.
We already knew that our district was a model district, indeed it has been singled out by the U.S. Department of Education for its successful graduation rate, and now we no longer have the flawed District In Need of Improvement label hanging over our heads.
How's that for a nice Back to School present!
